Dhaka, Bangladesh – March 15, 2024 – The Bangladesh Cancer Consortium (BCC) was launched at Dhaka Medical College (DMCH) following a high-level multidisciplinary meeting, marking a new era of clinician-led collaboration to improve cancer prevention, diagnosis, treatment, and survivorship nationwide.

Formed in affiliation with TACHRC CIC (Tasmia Asif Foundation UK), BCC aims to advance cancer care through advocacy, research partnership, knowledge exchange, and public awareness, aligning national expertise with global best practices.

Convened by Vice Principal Prof. Faruk Ahmed, the meeting gathered senior specialists from oncology, surgery, ENT, urology, orthopedics, and colorectal care, including Dr. Tasmia TahmidProf. Asadur RahmanProf. Zakir Hossain BiplobDr. Provat Chandra BiswasDr. Khorshed Alam BokulDr. NadimDr. AsaduzzamanDr. Azizul Hoque Manik, and Dr. Mir Rasheq Alam Ovi.

Dr. Tahmid, Steering Committee Convener, highlighted the goal of uniting clinicians under shared standards: “By working together, we can make a real difference in the lives of cancer patients.”

The consortium’s initial priorities include:

1. Creating national, evidence-based clinical guidelines adapted to local needs.

2. Strengthening multidisciplinary tumor boards and referral networks.

3. Launching research registries for local cancer data.

4. Expanding training for healthcare professionals.

5. Partnering to improve access to medicines and streamline patient navigation.

6. Running awareness campaigns to promote early detection.

7. Sharing expertise via webinars and open-access resources.

With governance led by a Steering Committee and dedicated working groups, BCC will ensure accountability through measurable outcomes. Its commitment to scalability, equity, and integration—from district facilities to national policy—aims to build a unified, patient-centered cancer care system in Bangladesh.
